- TELKOMSEL
PT Telekomunikasi Selular is the market leader in Cellular Telecommunications Services (mobile operator) in Indonesia, having a share of more than 50% of the total Indonesian cellular market which consists of over 18 million active users. The company served 9.6 million customers by the end of 2003, 90% of which are prepaid users, on a nationwide network covering about 80% of the population of this fourth most populous country in the world. Telkomsel operates a Dual Band GSM 900/1800 network in Indonesia, completed with GPRS services, WiFi hotspots and now EDGE technology in selected locations. The company is jointly owned by PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk 65% and Singapore Telecom ) 35%.
The company has a nationwide network covering about 80% of the population of the fourth most populous country in the world with a population of over 250 million people (this is one of the growth hotspots for mobile telecommunications in the Asian market). Telkomsel operates a Dual Band GSM 900/1800 network in Indonesia, complete with GPRS services, WiFi hotspots and EDGE technology in selected locations. More information.
- INDOSAT
PT Indosat , Tbk was established in 1967 as a foreign investment company to provide international telecommunications services in Indonesia, commencing its operations in 1969 with the inauguration of the Jatiluhur earth station. In1980, the Government of Indonesia acquired all of the shares of Indosat, which then became a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE). In 1994, Indosat listed its shares on the Jakarta Stock Exchange, the Surabaya Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange, achieving the distinction of being the first SOE to be listed overseas.
From 1969 until 1990, Indosat provided switched and non-switched international telecommunications services, including international direct dialling telephony, international data network communications, international leased lines and international television transmission services.
Entering the 21st century and in keeping with the global trends, the Government of Indonesia decided to deregulate the national telecommunications sector, opening it up to free market competition. From 2001, all cross-ownerships between Indosat and the domestic telecommunications provider, Telkom, have been eliminated, whereas the exclusivity rights of the two telecommunications service providers will be terminated in several stages.
Indosat pursued a main course of development of its cellular business starting in the mid 90’s. In 2001, we established PT Indosat Multi Media Mobile (IM3), followed by acquiring full control of PT Satelit Palapa Indonesia, thus making IndosatGroup the second largest cellular operator in Indonesia.
At the end of 2002, the Government of Indonesia undertook a 41.94% divestment of its shares in Indosat to Singapore Technologies Telemedia Pte. Ltd. through the holding company of Indonesia Communications Limited. With this divestment, Indosat is once again a foreign investment company, offering full fledged, integrated network and services in information and communication solutions.
On November 2003, following the signing of the Merger Deed to merge Satelindo, IM3 and Bimagraha into Indosat, Indosat emerges as a cellular focused Full Network Service Provider (FNSP). - EXCELCOMINDO
PT Excelcomindo Pratama Tbk. (XL) obtained the Global system for Mobile Communications (GSM) 900 spectrum allocation license from Indonesian authority in September 1995, whereas its commercial operation started in October 1996, providing GSM cellular network and services in the country, in two allocated bandwidth of GSM 900 and subsequently the superior GSM 1800. XL was the first private company to provide mobile telephone service in Indonesia.
As private company, XL is collaboration between several companies, of local and foreign investments, all which have reputable track and experience in telecommunication industry. XL benefits from the synergy, as well as from each of the shareholders’ specialized expertise.
At present, XL mainly provides cellular services for voice & data telecommunication, with several additionals, such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Besides for individual cell phone users, XL Business Solution division provides leased line and other packaged GSM cellular services to corporate clients and some local Internet Service Providers (ISP).
In the end of December 2005, the 130th XL Center was established, while on November 2005 XL Kita has reached 22,006 that spread out around Indonesia. XL Center helps customers to get updated information about the XL services and features as well as provides start-up vouchers for new users, and reload voucher for prepaid users. - MOBILE-8 TELECOM
