Telkomsel reached SMS delivery as 419 million per day
Indonesia’s giant network provider, Telkomsel, revealed that the volume of its short messages service (SMS) has increased drastically during this Idul Fitri festive season, reaching more than 400 million SMS traffic.
According to VP Network Operations PT Telkomsel, Eddie Wibawa, the traffics gained the top in the first day of the long holiday that mark the end of Moslem’s fasting month and reached 419 million SMS. “The amount increases 178 % from the normal day as many as 236 million per day,” he said.
Despite Telkomsel has anticipated the increasing-traffics by upgrading the capacity of SMS Service Center from 14,300 SMS per second as last year to 25,000 per second this year, he admitted that, to some cases, the delay of SMS delivery to other providers still happened.
Telkomsel is the leading operator of cellular telecommunications services in Indonesia by market share. By the end of March 2007, Telkomsel had 38,9 million customers which based on industry statistics represented a market share of around 55%.

Yes, that’s a big number! No wonder, Telkomsel had charged me triple for 1 (one) SMS sending to each number during the Lebaran. And the discrepency is only within seconds.
Same problem occured now on my billing month January 2008. I was charged 4 times in every sms sent to each number.
Need clarification from Telkomsel on that matter.
