At least 22 killed in Indonesia’s Garuda jetliner fire
JAKARTA — Garuda Indonesia jetliner carrying 140 people burst into flames as it landed at Adi Sutjipto airport in Yogyakarta early Wednesday, killing at least 22 people and wounding score others, officials said.
MetroTV television reported that many bodies had not been evacuated from the burned plane.
The Boeing 737-400 was carrying 10 Australians, including journalists and diplomatic staff, when it overshot the runway of Yogyakarta airport and caught fire.
The ill-fated airplane served Jakarta-Yogyakarta route.
