12 Indonesian Islands are critical

At least 12 outer islands of Indonesia are critical from the aspects of economy and security. The Government of Indonesia should put this matter as top priority.

According to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Widodo A.S., the 12 islands have the potential of conflict with other countries. Those islands include Rondo and Dana Islands in the Indian Ocean, Berhala Island in Malacca Strait, Nipa Island in Singapore Strait, Sekatung Island in the South China Sea, Marore, Mrangas and Merampit Islands in Sulawesi Sea and Fani, Fanildo also Bras Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

According to Widodo, Indonesia has 92 outer islands that measure around 2,000 square kilometers which directly border other countries. Out of that amount, 22 outer islands border Malaysia, four Singapore, two Vietnam, 11 Philippines, seven to Palau, 23 Australia, ten, Timor Leste, 12 India and one Papua New Guinea.
