The first international conference in Aceh

Aceh will continue to exist in the international forum. The Jakarta Post reported, Aceh is playing host to more than 300 people who are in the provincial capital to attend a four-day international conference on the Indian Ocean that began Saturday.
The event is being jointly organized by the BRR and the Asian Research Institute at a cost of more than Rp 1.7 billion (US$178,947).
The topics to be discussed at the conference include seismology, post-tsunami recovery, conflict resolution and Islamic law.
Aceh-Nias Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Agency (BRR) head Kuntoro Mangkusubroto said in Banda Aceh on Saturday that hosting the International Conference on Aceh and Indian Ocean Studies (ICAIOS) was part of efforts to help the province connect with the global community.
“Through international conferences such as these, Aceh will continue to exist in the international forum,” Kuntoro said.
