Indonesia develops radar for weather forecasting
Indonesia has developed and automatic radar system that provides real-time data to increase the accuracy of weather study in various fields, expert said as reported by The Jakarta Post.
Radar is a system that uses radio waves to determine and map the location, direction, and/or speed of both moving and fixed objects such as aircraft, ships, motor vehicles, weather formations and terrain.
“The system can help the government create an operational system that monitors or predicts weather or climate conditions,” said project leader Fadli Syamsuddin.
The system is called Harimau (originally Indonesian word and literally means ‘tiger’), which stands for Hydrometeorological Array for Intraseasonal variation Monsoon Automonitoring. It was joinly developed by the Agency of Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) and the government of Japan.
